Jessi’s Work Away to London

Where did you spend your Work Away, and why did you choose that location?

For my Work Away, I chose London for several reasons. First, it had always been on my list of places to visit, between movies like “Notting Hill” and shows like “The Crown”, which sparked my interest in the royal family. I knew there would be so much to experience, and I was right!

What was the biggest adjustment you made as you settled into your temporary Work Away home?

I was born and raised in Nashville, attended college in Nashville and have remained here. I have never been so far from home and my family for a full month (let alone more than a week, ha!). Because of this, being independent and unaware of the city was the biggest adjustment for me.

I was initially fearful when I was truly on my own. I was nervous about even the little things, like eating alone or taking the Tube alone to explore a new neighborhood. By the end of the trip, I felt confident in myself and the most independent I have ever been.

How did you connect with other PR professionals in your Work Away location?

I was able to connect with a team member from Capsule, a full-service marketing agency known for representing several makeup and lifestyle brands. Their team was incredibly welcoming, and I had the opportunity to visit their office and experience one of their pop-up influencer events, which they had organized for their client, Sacheu Beauty.

What is the best thing you ate or drank on your trip?

Of course, I had to try the fish n’ chips (which were delicious) and the traditional Sunday roast that you can pretty much find at every pub you walk into on Sundays.

But my favorite spot in London was Da Mario. This famous spot was where Princess Diana would often frequent because she was friends with the owner, and she would even bring the boys! From the pizzas to the pastas, I ended up going twice while I was there.

I also need to give an honorable mention to the many coffee shops I would go to EVERY DAY – St. George’s Coffee, Hagen Espresso Bar and Bread Ahead.

What sights did you see while you explored?

While there, I tried to visit every neighborhood and recommended spot. This included Big Ben, London Bridge, Borough Market, Camden Market, Notting Hill and so much more.

I went to a comedy show in Soho and shopped down King’s Street and got to experience the food hall in Harrods, which was truly spectacular! My favorite day was my solo day to Covent Garden and the Seven Dials market.

During my stay, I also had the opportunity to take the train to Paris, spending the weekend exploring all the sights and enjoying the food and wine!

Name one professional and one personal benefit to REED’s Work Away program.

Professional: Connecting with the Capsule team shed a new light on the influencer market and the activations they are implementing. There was a pop-up event for a brand at every turn you would take in London. I took away so many fun, creative ideas that I can’t wait to bring to my clients!

Personal: This trip made me grow up! I matured in ways I didn’t know I needed to. I feel more independent and confident. I am so grateful to have gotten to experience a month-long trip like this, and it would’ve been unimaginable if it weren’t for REED’s Work Away program.
